It has been confirmed that the Education Ministry is once again pushing for the dismissal of Park Ji-hyang, chairman of the Northeast Asian History Foundation, who returned to work following a court ruling. On the 27th and 28th, the ministry sent a formal notice to the foundation requesting a board meeting to discuss the chairman's dismissal on the 4th of next month.
Chairman Park was suspended from his duties on the grounds that using different budgets for a trip to Ulleungdo and Dokdo constituted embezzlement in the course of duty, and the Education Ministry has been demanding a board meeting to impose dismissal. However, on the 21st, the court granted Park's request for a provisional injunction against his suspension, allowing him to return to work on the 24th. The court determined that it was difficult to adequately demonstrate the nature of the spending outside the budget and any intent.
The foundation requested a postponement of the board meeting, believing it would be difficult to meet the quorum due to the Education Ministry's request. Nevertheless, the ministry reiterated its demand for the board meeting. The ministry emphasized that while the court granted the provisional injunction against the suspension, it did not make a judgment regarding embezzlement. Chairman Park's side expressed that they cannot accept the continued push for dismissal.
