The massive flooding in Nepal is estimated to result in recovery costs of approximately 7 trillion won. On the 29th (local time), Finance Minister Swarnim Wagle stated in an interview with Reuters that the damage recovery costs from the flooding that occurred in northern Bagmati Province on the 26th could reach between 4 billion and 5 billion dollars, or about 5.5 trillion to 6.9 trillion won. The upper estimate of 5 billion dollars corresponds to 10% of Nepal's total economic scale.
Minister Wagle emphasized that this estimate is in the early stages and added that the recovery costs will be much lower than those from the 2015 earthquake. He is currently assessing the scale of losses and damages, noting that the recovery costs from the 2015 earthquake amounted to about 9 billion dollars.
As of now, the flooding has resulted in 626 fatalities and 2,426 people missing. Additionally, in the Jilong County of China's Tibet Autonomous Region, debris flows caused by the flooding have reportedly led to 7 deaths and 554 people missing.
