Former Seoul High Prosecutor Lim Se-jin recently confessed to the difficult circumstances within the prosecution as he resigned. He stated that it is hard to accept the reality where the prosecution as an institution is demonized and its members are indiscriminately criticized.
In his reflections posted on the internal network of the prosecution, Lim emphasized that the establishment of a crime of legal distortion and various judicial risks arising from investigations into politicians make it difficult for prosecutors to carry out their duties with conviction.
He pointed out that the establishment of a crime of legal distortion, which only applies to public officials handling criminal justice work, and the various judicial risks associated with participating in investigations against politicians are undermining the system that guarantees the status of prosecutors. Additionally, he criticized some members who have taken advantage of the demonization of the prosecution, misleadingly suggesting that only the organizational culture of the prosecution is problematic.
Lim graduated from Gyeonggi High School and Seoul National University Law School, beginning his career as a prosecutor at the Seoul Central District Prosecutors' Office in 2008. He has served as the head of the Criminal Planning Division at the Ministry of Justice, chief prosecutor, and head of the Financial Investigation Division 1 at the Seoul Southern District Prosecutors' Office, and was recently serving as a prosecutor at the Seoul High Prosecutors' Office. He investigated the real estate speculation case involving former lawmaker Son Hye-won and the illegal exit ban case concerning former Deputy Minister of Justice Kim Hak-eui, and during this process, he was reported to the Corruption Investigation Office for High-ranking Officials for allegedly creating false investigation reports. The Corruption Investigation Office is currently facing criticism for delaying the handling of the case.
