Ha Jung-woo, former Chief of AI Future Planning at the Blue House, shared his thoughts on being appointed as the Executive Vice Chair of the National AI Strategy Committee through his social media on the 30th. He conveyed that he feels a heavy sense of responsibility based on his experience in AI research and development in the private sector and at the Blue House. After being appointed as the first AI Chief in June last year, he returned to the government AI policy line about four months after resigning to run in the April by-election.
Vice Chair Ha emphasized that South Korea has a unique competitive edge in the memory semiconductor sector and has accumulated the capability to catch up with the United States and China in the frontier AI field. He stated, "Based on the world-class manufacturing industry foundation, there is potential for us to leap to a leading country in the physical AI sector," mentioning that the establishment and operational capacity of a stable power infrastructure are also factors of opportunity for South Korea.
He resolved to deliver AI results that the public can feel and pledged to do his best for the success of the three mega-projects and seven SEED projects. He also added that through youth growth and regional development via AI, he aims to ensure that the fruits of a new era of high growth opened by AI will benefit all citizens. The newly appointed Ha expressed his commitment to collaborating with Deputy Prime Minister Bae Kyung-hoon and new AI Future Planning Chief Lee Hae-min to provide growth opportunities for future generations.
