Former Daegu Mayor Hong Joon-pyo announced that he will re-register as a lawyer to monitor police investigation practices. This decision comes amid growing concerns about police behavior following a recent incident in Jeju where an officer falsely closed a missing person report.
On the 25th, Hong posted on his social media, stating, "I need to re-register as a lawyer," adding, "Even if I do not engage in litigation activities, I must re-register to prevent the impending abuses of the police." He referenced his past experience of re-registering as a lawyer while former President Lee Myung-bak was imprisoned, assessing the current situation as dire.
He further stated, "Given the tumultuous and dangerous times, I will register as a lawyer, even as a private practitioner, to monitor the barbaric behavior of the police." While he did not mention any specific cases, his comments are interpreted as closely related to the controversy surrounding the false closure of the missing person case by Jeju police.
