Recently, due to a massive flood in Nepal, nine South Koreans have lost contact. They were workers at a hydropower construction site, where a total of 19 individuals were present, but nine are now missing. The remaining ten evacuated to higher ground, and of these, nine were transported to safety by a Nepalese military helicopter. The local site manager, a Nepalese employee, volunteered to stay until all his colleagues are rescued.
The government has dispatched a rapid response team consisting of personnel from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the National Police Agency, and the National Fire Agency to Nepal. The team leader, Lim Sang-woo, stated that they will do their utmost for swift and safe search and rescue operations. The rapid response team plans to focus on assessing the situation on-site and requesting assistance from Nepalese authorities for the rescue of the South Koreans rather than conducting direct rescue operations.
Additionally, on-site response teams from Doosan Enerbility and Namdong Power have also arrived in Nepal, and the Ministry of National Defense has decided to deploy the Air Force's multi-purpose aerial refueling aircraft 'Cygnus' to support the rescue and evacuation of the missing individuals. The urgent task at hand is to confirm the fate of the missing persons.
