Trump Likely to Discuss Accepting North Korean Nuclear Program and Halting US-South Korea Exercises with Kim Jong-un

There are forecasts that if President Donald Trump meets with North Korean leader Kim Jong-un, discussions will likely include the implicit acceptance of North Korea's nuclear program and the suspension of US-South Korea joint exercises. Former US official Anthony Ruggiero analyzed that there is a high possibility that implicit recognition of North Korea's nuclear weapons program will be part of the negotiations between Trump and Kim.

Ruggiero mentioned that Trump could propose a peace treaty to officially end the Korean War, improve political and economic relations, and permanently halt US-South Korea joint exercises. He also added that the cessation of North Korea's military support related to the Ukraine war and troop withdrawal should be included as part of the agreement.

There are also suggestions that President Trump might sign an agreement with Kim in North Korea or a neutral location, which could become a dramatic scene attracting media attention. He warned that negotiations with North Korea would not be easy, while emphasizing that North Korea has experience in achieving desired outcomes in negotiations with the United States.
