A Russian drone strike on a weapons depot near a residential area on the outskirts of Kyiv has resulted in at least 37 deaths and the evacuation of nearly 400 people. The strike occurred late on Friday, causing shells, mines, and drones to detonate, damaging nearby properties, including a care home for the elderly and disabled, according to President Volodymyr Zelensky.
Zelensky stated that the storage site "definitely shouldn't have been there" and announced that an investigation had been launched into the "terrible negligence" of those responsible for storing explosives near residential areas. The attack is the second to hit a munitions depot near Kyiv in recent months, raising renewed anger and questions about safety protocols.
Among the injured, four children were reported, and a rescue operation was ongoing in the Bucha district. Local resident Liubov Pavlenko described extensive damage to her home, with cracks compromising its structural integrity. Zelensky emphasized that regulations prohibit the storage of ammunition near homes, and criminal proceedings have been initiated against officials responsible for the placement of explosives.
