The Democratic Party of Korea and the government are exploring ways to transfer the permitting authority of the Seoul mayor and other metropolitan leaders to local government heads. On the 27th, the Democratic Party's Seoul chapter held a policy meeting with affiliated district heads in Yeongdeungpo-gu, Seoul, to discuss additional measures for the transfer of the mayor's authority.
Secretary-General Han Jeong-ae mentioned the circumstances during the enactment of the Housing Act and Urban Redevelopment Act, arguing that the current laws are so detailed that indiscriminate development is impossible. He pointed out the lengthy process of Seoul's redevelopment and reconstruction projects even after prior review, expressing a desire to hear the opinions of district heads and seek support measures.
Kim Young-bae, chair of the Seoul chapter, emphasized that housing supply in Seoul must be balanced in light of the increasing ratio of one- and two-person households, stating that it is necessary to discuss transferring the excessive authority of the Seoul mayor to autonomous districts for urban planning of small residential projects. He also criticized the housing supply measures proposed by Mayor Oh Se-hoon, highlighting the need for public development.
