Foreign Minister Cho Hyun met with Crispus Walter Kiyonga, Uganda's second deputy prime minister, on September 10, 2026, in Seoul. During the meeting, Cho requested support for South Korean companies operating in Uganda.
Cho highlighted the progress made in nuclear cooperation between the two countries, noting that Korea Hydro and Nuclear Power was contracted by Uganda's energy ministry in May last year to assess a proposed site in the Buyende region for the country's first nuclear power plant. He asked Uganda to continue backing South Korean firms in the nuclear energy and artificial intelligence sectors.
In response, Kiyonga stated that he would consider ways to support South Korean businesses. The two officials also agreed to expand cooperation in agriculture, mineral resources, tourism, energy, and information and communications technology.
