A controversy has arisen due to repeated incidents of feces being left unattended at a free shower facility set up for runners visiting Namsan by the Seoul city government. According to the Central Park Leisure Center, feces were discovered twice in the men's booth of the Namsan runner shower facility in January and July. It has not been confirmed whether these incidents were caused by the same individual, and on-site staff conducted the cleaning themselves.
This shower facility opened in October last year to allow citizens to wash and change clothes before and after exercising, and it has reportedly been used by 12,862 people since its opening. After the first incident, the city posted notices in the shower area to maintain order, warning that if such behaviors continue, there may be operational restrictions, including the cessation of providing communal items, mentioning the loss of dryers and the case of feces being left behind.
However, the same issue occurred again six months later. To use the shower, visitors must record their name and entry time at the entrance and receive a QR code for authentication, but the design of the booths as independent spaces makes it difficult to immediately check the internal situation, which has been pointed out as a problem. The city has decided to continue operating the shower facility, judging the two incidents as deviations by some users, and plans to strengthen the posting of notices and on-site guidance.
