Goyang Mayor Min Kyung-seon delivered a policy proposal to Minister of Land, Infrastructure and Transport Kim Yoon-deok during their meeting, aimed at enhancing the self-sufficiency of Goyang City. At this meeting, Mayor Min requested the immediate allocation of 66,000 square meters of industrial space within the Changneung district. Currently, Goyang is designated as a congestion control zone under the metropolitan planning law, which restricts the expansion of industrial facilities.
Despite being a large city with a population of 1.07 million, Goyang faces a shortage of industrial land, making it urgent to secure industrial allocation for attracting businesses and creating quality jobs. Additionally, Mayor Min mentioned the need for a reasonable amendment to the metropolitan planning law to ensure that metropolitan regulations do not limit the city's self-sufficiency.
Goyang plans to foster the aerospace, urban air mobility (UAM), medical, and bio industries through collaboration with local universities and the National Cancer Center. Through this initiative, Goyang aims to evolve from a residential-centered city into a self-sufficient city where businesses and talents gather, promoting a virtuous cycle of economic activity. In the transportation sector, Goyang plans to extend the Goyang-Eunpyeong line from the existing Goyang City Hall to the Siksaji district to improve public transportation conditions. Mayor Min emphasized the need for national-level support for these transportation infrastructure improvements. Officials from the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport stated they would positively review Goyang's requests.
