A man identified as A, who is subject to probation with an electronic bracelet, threatened his probation officer by saying, "I will spray hydrochloric acid," and has now faced court. The 11th Criminal Division of the Uijeongbu District Court announced that A was sentenced to six months in prison for obstructing the execution of public duties.
A was sentenced to two years and six months in prison for forcibly molesting a minor in March 2024 and was ordered to wear an electronic device while serving his sentence, from which he was released in November of last year. After his release, while living under probation with the electronic bracelet, A was observed manipulating a Telegram chat on his phone during an unannounced inspection by a probation officer on February 5 this year.
When the probation officer guided A regarding compliance matters, such as the prohibition of sending obscene materials, A became enraged and protested, saying, "This is a violation of human rights. Did you hack me?" He then made a threatening statement, saying, "If I end up going to prison for this, I will spray hydrochloric acid at the probation office." A continued to call the probation office, filing complaints and threatening again, saying, "If you keep this up, it will be war. I will spray hydrochloric acid at the probation office."
The court noted that A's actions were considered an obstruction of the legitimate guidance and supervision of public officials at the probation office, and pointed out that his letters demanding the withdrawal of punishment showed mockery towards the victim. This appears to be the reason for the imposition of a prison sentence.
