Kim Yo-jong, the deputy director of North Korea's Workers' Party, dismissed the International Atomic Energy Agency's (IAEA) call for North Korea's denuclearization as "nonsense," asserting that North Korea's status as a nuclear power is absolute. In a statement released on the 17th, she referred to the IAEA's demand for denuclearization, which pointed out North Korea's violations of UN Security Council resolutions at the IAEA General Conference, as "just noise we hear every year."
She emphasized that attempts to change the current status of their country are nothing but a foolish delusion, asserting that international demands for denuclearization will not influence North Korea's nuclear policy. Kim claimed that North Korea's status as a nuclear power has already reached an irreversible stage, adding that "the nuclear status of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea is a permanently entrenched reality, both physically and legally."
At the IAEA General Conference, concerns were raised regarding North Korea's expanding uranium enrichment capabilities and reactor operations, with South Korea and European countries warning that North Korea's nuclear program poses a significant threat to the international non-proliferation regime. The IAEA called for the implementation of denuclearization and released its annual report on North Korea's nuclear activities.
