Former Acting Chief Justice Moon Hyung-bae expressed his views on the controversy surrounding the nomination of Supreme Court justices. During a special lecture held at the Jung-gu Office in Daejeon, he expressed concern that delays in appointing justices could harm the citizens.
Moon lamented the Blue House's rejection of the nomination of Judge Son Bong-ki from the Daegu District Court and argued that the President and Chief Justice should meet face-to-face to resolve the issue.
He pointed out that while the President is not obligated to follow the nominations made by the Chief Justice, it is also undesirable for the President to appoint someone solely based on personal preference. Moon emphasized that communicating only through official documents in such situations is inappropriate and stressed the need for dialogue.
Additionally, he mentioned that tolerance and restraint are necessary to resolve societal divisions and expressed a critical stance on the Corruption Investigation Office for High-ranking Officials. Moon raised questions about the actual contributions of this agency, which was established as a symbolic institution during the Moon Jae-in administration.
