From January to July 2026, national tax revenue reached 274 trillion won, which is an increase of over 41 trillion won compared to the same period last year. The Ministry of Finance and Economy explained that this achievement is attributed to the increase in stock trading volume and revenue. The tax revenue progress rate for this year is 66%, marking the highest figure in the last five years.
In July alone, national tax revenue was 51 trillion won, an increase of 8.4 trillion won compared to the previous year. Value-added tax, securities transaction tax, and income tax were the main contributors to the increase in tax revenue. Notably, the securities transaction tax in July reached 1.4 trillion won, a 401% surge compared to the previous year. This was primarily driven by a 232.4% increase in trading volume of listed stocks in June and the restoration of the securities transaction tax rate.
The cumulative securities transaction tax from January to July amounted to 8.2 trillion won, a 348.5% increase compared to last year's 1.8 trillion won. Additionally, the special tax on rural areas imposed on KOSPI trading volume also increased by 182.5% to 13.1 trillion won. In contrast, the transportation energy environment tax decreased by 300 billion won to 9 trillion won due to the reduction in the fuel tax rate. The Ministry of Finance and Economy announced plans to conduct a tax revenue reassessment in September, reflecting the results of corporate tax interim payments.
