To respond to the severe flooding in Nepal, the South Korean government has formed an 11-member rapid response team that is set to depart this afternoon. This team consists of experts from various fields, including the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, fire services, and police, with Im Sang-woo, a government representative in charge of protecting overseas citizens, serving as the team leader.
The response team plans to arrive in Kathmandu, Nepal, via a civilian flight from Incheon International Airport, with a layover in Hong Kong. They will support search and rescue operations for Koreans in the area. Currently, the flooding in the central northern Himalayan region of Nepal has resulted in at least 160 deaths and 403 people missing.
In particular, nine Koreans are reported to be out of contact, while another ten are isolated but reported safe. The government is committed to ensuring the safety of Koreans through rapid response efforts.
