The People Power Party strongly opposed the prosecutors' decision to abandon the appeal against former Democratic Party lawmaker Noh Woong-rae on the 29th. Spokesperson Park Seong-hoon criticized the decision in a statement, stating that the prosecutors are abandoning the rule of law while being mindful of the powers that be.
Noh was indicted on charges of bribery and illegal political funding, and he received not guilty verdicts in both the first and second trials. The prosecutors decided not to exercise their right to appeal against this ruling. Spokesperson Park pointed to a post made by President Lee Jae-myung on social media, suggesting that the president's remarks are effectively substituting for the prosecutors' judgment.
He urged the government and ruling party to immediately cease attempts to turn the prosecutors into a shield for the regime, warning that the public will not tolerate a prosecutors' office that succumbs to the demands of power and a regime that exploits it. He also emphasized that the Lee Jae-myung administration and the Democratic Party are trying to wash away their own crimes by seizing power, and that the prosecutors, who have abandoned judicial justice, will inevitably face severe judgment from the public.
