Rep. Kim Young-jin of the Democratic Party argued that the decline in President Lee Jae-myung's approval ratings is related not only to real estate issues but also to stock market problems. He emphasized during his appearance on MBC Radio on the 27th that the introduction of single-stock leverage ETFs has increased volatility in the stock market, leading to significant feelings of loss among affected investors.
Rep. Kim explained that as the honeymoon period of the Lee Jae-myung administration comes to an end, it will be difficult for approval ratings to rise unless the public feels that their lives have improved as a result of the Democratic Party and government policies. He added that there was significant backlash due to the implementation of tax policies before sufficient real estate supply policies were in place.
Furthermore, he criticized those who introduced single-stock leverage ETFs for causing a major shock to stock market participants with shortsighted policy decisions, asserting that accountability is necessary for these individuals. When asked by the host if they could be subject to personnel changes, Rep. Kim stated that such judgments should consider public sentiment.
