A time capsule buried 100 years ago was discovered in a church in Hawaii. This time capsule included records and a list of donations for the operation of the Korean Christian Academy in Honolulu, Hawaii. Notably, a financial report from 1924 was found, marking the first time this document has been confirmed.
The time capsule was unearthed in February during the 100th anniversary of a church located in Maui, Hawaii. In this process, records of donations from independence activist Jeong Ji-young were also discovered; he was a figure who engaged in the independence movement in the United States. Researchers from Changwon National University were able to locate his grave based on records indicating that he sent donations from LA.
The financial report found is regarded as a valuable historical document that confirms the history of Korean independence movements in the U.S., with donations collected from various places including Hawaii, San Francisco, and LA. These records are expected to play an important role in recalling the spirit of immigrants who fought for independence.
