The U.S. Supreme Court on Monday allowed the White House to continue construction on a $400 million ballroom project. This decision is a win for President Trump, further consolidating executive power. The 5-4 ruling replaces a temporary order that was set to halt construction.
Chief Justice John Roberts dissented, arguing that the project is likely unlawful as it lacks congressional approval. He stated, "Today’s decision is no victory for the separation of powers." In contrast, the majority opinion found that the National Trust for Historic Preservation likely did not have the legal standing to challenge the project.
Trump expressed satisfaction with the ruling, stating on social media that the Supreme Court ruled in favor of the ballroom and military complex without any further doubts.
