President Lee Jae-myung expressed critical views on the government's decision to withdraw its plan to strengthen the comprehensive real estate tax for non-residential single-homeowners on the 2nd. He stated through his X (formerly Twitter) that "changing policy positions is not always right," explaining that the government's changes reflect the opinions of the political sphere and the public.
President Lee countered the criticisms raised regarding the decision to restore the tax exemption ceiling from 900 million won to 1.2 billion won and to maintain the increase limit at 150% instead of 200%. He claimed that the criticisms regarding changes to the comprehensive real estate tax for high-value non-residential single homes and taxes on multiple homes and ultra-high-value properties have been overlooked.
Former Justice Party leader Cho Kuk criticized the government's withdrawal of the tax burden enhancement plan, asserting that this decision protected the interests of the top 1%. In response to Cho's criticism, President Lee pointed out that "it is worth considering whether it is appropriate to disparage based on a very small part," calling for a restoration of true politics. Criticism of Cho continued within the ruling party, but he retorted with the phrase "the wise man speaks with sincerity."
