Recently, after the Chair of the Federal Reserve hinted at interest rate hikes due to inflation concerns during the Jackson Hole meeting, the New York stock market showed a downward trend, leading to a decline in investor sentiment. Consequently, despite Nvidia's improved performance and shareholder return policies from Samsung and SK, semiconductor-related stocks are still struggling.
Nvidia's stock surged more than 8% following its second-quarter earnings announcement, but Samsung Electronics and SK Hynix have not shown signs of recovery despite announcing shareholder return policies worth 110 trillion won and 40 trillion won, respectively. Experts attribute this stagnation primarily to rising interest rates caused by the war in Iran. Higher interest rates increase the burden of loan interest, which can negatively impact semiconductor companies' stock prices.
Additionally, as big tech companies are raising funds for data center investments through corporate bond issuance, higher interest rates will inevitably increase their interest burdens. Experts point out that the future of semiconductor companies' stock prices depends on whether the Federal Reserve will raise interest rates and the actual profits of big tech companies. Ultimately, big tech firms that are generating profits from AI services will need to demonstrate demand for semiconductors for stock price recovery to be possible.
