The Republic of Korea's overseas emergency relief team (KDRT) is being dispatched to Nepal. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced on the 1st that it has decided to send the KDRT to the flood-affected areas in Nepal through a resolution of the joint public-private overseas emergency relief council. The team consists of a total of 44 members from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA), and the Fire Agency, including the team leader, Lee Kyu-ho, the Director of the Ministry's Development Cooperation Bureau.
The relief team is scheduled to depart for Nepal via military transport aircraft at midnight. They plan to conduct search and rescue operations for victims, including those who have lost contact, in cooperation with the Nepalese government for about 10 days. Depending on the situation on the ground, the deployment period may be extended.
A Ministry of Foreign Affairs official stated that upon arrival, the relief team will consult with Nepalese authorities to expand the search area in collaboration with rapid response teams. Additionally, equipment such as high-resolution drones, acoustic and video detectors, thermal imaging cameras, underwater pumps, and five rescue dogs will also be transported. This deployment is a response to the request for assistance following the severe flooding that occurred in the Rasuwagadhi area of Nepal on the 26th of last month.
