The leadership of the People Power Party is attempting to rally the traditional conservative base by contacting former Presidents Lee Myung-bak and Park Geun-hye in succession. On the 31st, floor leader Jeong Jeom-sik is scheduled to visit Lee at the Yeongpo Building in Seocho-gu, Seoul. This visit is reportedly to express gratitude for Lee's support during the June 3 local elections and to seek advice on internal unification.
The People Power Party also invited former President Park as a special lecturer at a parliamentary seminar held over two days starting on the 27th. During the seminar, Park urged party members to unite around the leadership, calling for solidarity within the party. However, there are questions about whether relying on former presidents can effectively resolve internal conflicts.
Floor leader Jeong strongly rebuffed criticisms from the Democratic Party, condemning their distortions and denigrations. Analysts in the political arena suggest that attempts to unify based on the two former presidents are unlikely to lead to genuine cohesion. In particular, discussions about an alliance with former lawmaker Yoo Seung-min have not made progress, and conflicts between pro-Park and anti-Park factions within the party persist. Experts point out that the symbolic significance of former presidents has limitations in addressing current political issues.
