Nepal's disaster authority and the Flood Forecasting Division issued early-morning alerts to residents of Rasuwa, Nuwakot, and Dhading districts, advising them to stay vigilant amid reports of renewed flooding in the Bhotekoshi. The warning came after Chinese authorities shared information indicating increased water flow upstream.
As rescue efforts in communities buried by catastrophic flash floods along the Nepal-China border entered their fourth day Saturday, authorities were still finding survivors and transporting them to safety. At relief centers, while some arrived, families of others waited anxiously for news of their loved ones as the death toll and the number of people unaccounted for continued to rise.
Nepal’s disaster agency said Sunday the death toll had climbed to 788 with 2,502 missing, while Chinese authorities reported 16 deaths and 546 missing on the Chinese side of the border. Poor weather temporarily hampered aerial rescue operations in Nepal on Saturday as the search for thousands of missing people in areas devastated by catastrophic flash floods continued.
