A scene was captured of a suicide drone being launched towards a target from the Marado vessel in the southern waters of Busan. On the 25th, the Navy and the Defense Science Research Institute conducted a marine combat experiment with domestically produced medium-sized suicide unmanned aerial vehicles in the southern sea, but all launched drones fell into the sea immediately after being fired from the ship. The goal of this experiment was to strike unmanned boats moving at high speed from a distance of 2 kilometers, but both launches ended in failure.
The drone was scheduled for completion by next month, but the consecutive failures have raised alarms about its development. In modern warfare, attack drones are considered a key means to neutralize expensive weapon systems at a low cost, but South Korea is assessed to be lagging in this field. Currently, the capability to utilize suicide drones is limited to some army units and special forces.
Experts point out that the price of South Korean suicide drones is several times higher than those of Iran and the United States, noting their poor cost-effectiveness, and emphasize the need for substantial government investment in the drone industry. Although this experiment failed, it is hoped that it will serve as a stepping stone for the advancement of South Korea's drone technology.
