On the 31st of October, U.S. President Donald Trump mentioned in an interview with reporters at the White House that interest rates in the U.S. are too high and called for a rate cut. He responded to Federal Reserve Chairman Kevin Waller's suggestion of a rate hike by saying, "I have a lot of respect for him, and he will do what needs to be done."
President Trump emphasized, "Our interest rates are too high," and stated, "We should have the lowest rates in the world." He argued that success and growth do not trigger inflation, adding, "When we are doing well, there is no need to raise rates. In many cases, we should lower rates."
Chairman Waller had indicated at the Jackson Hole Economic Symposium on the 28th that he might consider raising rates if inflation does not slow down. The next meeting of the Federal Open Market Committee (FOMC) is scheduled to take place between September 15 and 16.
